The start of this week was filled again with being a stay at home Dad while my wife was one a trip to Florida. Although much of my days were taken up with entertaining my children, on some nights I was able to get them in bed early enough for me to do some of my own artwork.
The first thing I started was a relief sculpture of The Good Samaritan. This sculpture is not at all complete by any means but it is far enough along that you should get a good idea of what it will look like. I still have yet to sculpt eyes, hands, toes, the background, and many other details. I will show the progress as it comes

This is one of my favorite bible stories, I think it is a message that can apply to everyone, Christian or not. It teaches that we should treat everyone as our neighbor no matter what differences we might have. I hope that in the end that it will inspire people to be more like the Good Samaritan and treat each other as our neighbors.
The title of this post is The Good Samaritan VS. The Cyborg Yeti. I don’t mean to pin these two in some sort of cage match or anything but some other artwork I did this week was of a Cyborg Yeti. A skateboard company in Boise Idaho called Board Pusher does a monthly design contest. Although I don’t usually enter these contests I thought this one would be fun. I am a fan of the 1950’s Monster Movie Posters, and this was inspired by them. They usually feature a cool monster taking off with a beautiful damsel in a nightgown or something of the sort. Sometimes I do projects like this to change things up a little. One night this week in particular, I needed a break from the more serious Good Samaritan and so I did a Cyborg Yeti.

This was fun and there is a chance I might win a longboard with this printed on it and little money.
I started back at school and my week has been pretty full of getting my classes up and going after having a Sub.
Until next week may you all be inspired and creative.

Me with my three beautiful daughters in a ball pit.
What a week! Sometimes art happens, and sometimes other things happen while you are trying to do art. This week a little of both happened. As many of you know I am a High School Art Teacher. For me this was the first week of the new semester. Since my last post I have done a lot in terms of getting students grades finalized, my classroom deep cleaned, and prepared for a new semester. On top of this my wife has flown to Florida for a conference and I am have taken half of the week of to be with my kids. Any of you stay at home parents out there can testify, it’s not easy getting things done with a 2 year old around. Despite the joys and challenges this week has had I have been able to get some artwork done. One thing I did this week is took pics of models for one of my new sculptures. I then sketched out the composition. Here is a picture of me hard at work. I like this picture because it wasn’t posed like many of my “me creating art” pictures are. I was just sketching and then my wife was taking the picture.
Here is the picture of the final sketch. The final piece will be a relief wall sculpture. If you can’t tell, this is a depiction of The parable of the Good Samaritan. This is one of my favorite stories in the bible. It teaches up that no matter who we are and no matter what our differences are we can always be a good neighbor.
The past couple days I have spent taking care of this beautiful girl. Her name is Eden and she is perfect. We have done a lot of dancing and singing and reading and laughing. I adore her. I tried to sculpt on my lion while she sculpted with play dough. It worked for a little while but then my other daughter got home from kinder garden and things went crazy. Later that night I found that one of my girls decided to help me smooth out my sculpture. isn’t that sweet? Lucky not too much damage occurred but it pretty much made any work I got done that day pointless.
In the meantime I have been brushing up on my Anatomy Knowledge and how it applies to Facial Expressions. I’ve been reading this book “The Artists Complete Guide to Facial Expression”. If you are at all interested in this I highly recommend it. This book would put many people to sleep but I find it facinating.
Other things accomplished this week. I applied for representation at another Art Gallery. This time for a gallery in Bozeman Montana. We will see how that goes. And I have finalized dates for my Solo Exhibition at the Carr Gallery in Idaho Falls. The show dates will be November 5th, 2015 – January 15th, 2016. I still have the kids all to myself until Sunday night. I am determined to get some more artwork done during this time. Probably after my kids go to sleep. Until next week… I hope you are inspired and happy.
